Dhal Curry Fritter

Image
We always get extra Dhal Curry when we buy Roti canai or flat bread, usually for our breakfast. Sometimes we get dhal curry and sambal, but sometimes we get dhal curry, sambal and curry. Roti canai is one of Malaysian staple breakfast food. Not only cheap, it is also delicious. It is a type of flat bread which is crispy on the outer side and soft inside. It also come with many variations such as onion roti canai, cheese roti canai, egg roti canai, double egg roti canai, half cooked egg roti canai, sardines roti canai or combinations of the former. There are already many you tubers covering about roti canai in Malaysia. One problem that I face when I buy roti canai is the extra dhal curry given by the seller. It is easy to just toss them in the bin or in the sink but my heart always feel guilty by doing so. That was when this idea suddenly came to my mind, which is to make fritters out of it. Then I tried to make it and I found out my father and brother loves them. Seems like I h...

Tumis budu (Fish Sauce Coconut Gravy)

Image
It has been a long time since I added a recipe here. The weather is hot, but it began to rain in several days before. When the weather was very hot in last two weeks, I feel like do not want to do anything. It was hot and less humid. My plants need to be watered everyday and there is no rain. I am continuing to write this recipe of a gravy called Tumis Budu. It is a dish that is usually eaten with white rice and deep fried fish or other meat, and salad. It is also a sauce for Kerabu Rice, a type of rice which often dyed in blue color, eaten with finely chopped vegetable and herb salad, fried grated coconut, spicy fish sauce and some meat of choice, either fried or grilled. The taste of this gravy is creamy, a little spicy, a little sweet and sour with the hint of fish sauce taste. It is also very good when rated with grilled fish with coconut sauce and grilled chicken in coconut sauce , also with this turmeric fried beef here . Ready in 30 minutes For 6 servings...

Solok Lada

Image
Solok Lada (so-lock la-da) or Stuffed Chili is a side dish along with Nasi Kerabu (Kelantanese Salad Rice). It is also can be eaten along with rice and gulai or curry. It is a dish made from big green chili (usually a type of chili we call solok chili) filled with flavored grated coconut and fish.  The taste of solok is creamy, a bit spicy, salty and sweet. However the spiciness of the chili has been largely reduced because the chili is cooked and the seeds are removed before stuffing in the coconut filling. Usually sardine and mackerel fish are used to make Solok Lada.  Solok Lada is delicious when eaten with Nasi Kerabu which has a mixed flavor from fresh minced vegetables and herbs, spicy coconut sauce (tumis), grated coconut sambal and budu (anchovies sauce). It is also accompanied with sambal air lada (chili sambal), and any meat of choice. Solok is also delicious when eaten with rice and gulai, a curry like gravy which is usually cooked with meat, fish and c...

It is suitable eaten with steamy rice and soy sauce and is easy to make. Kids usually loves it. Dadar fried egg usually contains onion, garlic and sometimes chili. This makes the fried egg contains various flavor in it, and also not boring as you can taste the crunchy onion and chili while eating it.  The amount of cooking oil used affect the texture of the omelette. The more cooking oil used the fluffier the egg will be. And we also have to make sure the oil is well heated before adding the egg mixture into the pan. Cautions also must be taken while flipping the egg.  Ready in 10 minutes Ingredients 1 egg 1 shallot 1 clove garlic 1 bird eye chili or other chili of choice 1/3 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoon cooking oil ...

Yellow Vegetable Acar

Image
Today I cooked beef kerutuk, a curry like dish. So I thought a bowl of cucumber acar will suit my beef kerutuk perfectly. I decided to make this version of cucumber acar, which is called Yellow Acar. This version of mine is a simple version of this Yellow Acar. Is has a sweet, sour, salty and fresh taste. The amount of sugar, salt and vinegar can be altered to one's preference. You can also add in other types of suitable vegetable and fruits that you think suitable.  This is the first time making this acar for my family so it does not look really appetizing. But I still want to share the recipe and the pic will be upgraded time to time as I make other batch of it. I also added dried chili in it but I don't like it in there. So I omit it from ingredient. If you want to add chili I suggest to add fresh green chili.  Prep time : around 10 minutes Cook time : around 10 minutes Ingredients 1 medium cucumber 1 medium carrot 3 cloves garlic 5 shallot...
